Surprisingly I've never reviewed a GemCraft title even though the flash game franchise is in my top tower defense list and is up there with the ranks of?Kingdom Rush?and?Cursed Treasure. I've always regarded the GemCraft series as the more "pro" tower defense game as it just has a lot more strategic elements than most other games. Now that the long awaited wait for?GemCraft Chasing Shadows is over I'll get my chance to review a GemCraft game and speak my mind.

GemCraft Chasing Shadows walkthrough
Right off the bat after playing a few levels of?GemCraft Chasing Shadows I can already tell that the ante has been raised. By this I mean there are a lot of seemingly new things in?GemCraft Chasing Shadows that you'll have to deal with. There are your classic towers, traps, amplifiers and walls that already give enough options and freedom to really let your strategic mind go free but there is a whole new interface outside of the game. The skill system is a little different this time around and honestly not sure for the better but it is fairly interesting. A new talisman menu is added in which you find talismans randomly in battle and you can "equip" them to give you various boosts. These can be upgraded using shadow cores which you also earn from completing levels.

There are also a lot of other level based structures, most of which are reoccurring, but with a few added ones. Tomes for instance are new and shrines have gotten a bit of an update it seems. Level wise there are over 140 stages and you can also add modifiers to make them harder. I still stand by that the GemCraft series as a whole and especially?GemCraft Chasing Shadows is one of the harder tower defense games and you will really have to think strategically to win, there is no hand holding here it is do or die. Some people may not like the intense difficulty (or maybe I just suck at the game in general) but for those who do there is a whole world to explore in?GemCraft Chasing Shadows.
